  1. Step 1 of 6: See if this is for you

    • You work or go to school
    • Kids age 12 and under
    • Income under the limit
    Good to know: Family of 3: up to $4,642/month. Family of 4: up to $5,599/month (as of March 2025). Kids with special needs may qualify longer.
    Important: You must cooperate with child support services if that applies to you.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Birth certificates and shot records
    • Picture ID and Social Security cards
    • Pay stubs or income papers
    • Work or school schedule
  3. Step 3 of 6: Pick your provider

    You list them on the application

    Good to know: Qualifying relatives like grandparents, aunts, and uncles can be providers too.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply

    • Answer within 10 working days
    • Certificate shows your benefits
  6. Step 6 of 6: Start your care

    • Give certificate info to your provider
    • Pay your copay each month
    Good to know: The state pays your provider directly - lower-income families pay a smaller copay. You've got this!
