  1. Step 1 of 6: See if your child fits

    Age and address matter

    Important: Kids turning 5 before August 31 should apply for kindergarten instead.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Pick up to 5 schools

    All 5 choices count the same

    Important: You can't rank your choices — all 5 get equal consideration.
  3. Step 3 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Proof of child's age
    • Proof of your address
    • Proof of your money
    Good to know: Special forms exist if you have no income, are self-employed, or don't have stable housing.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply by April 15

    Online, by phone, or on paper

    Don't miss: Apply between March 14 and April 15 for the best chance. Later applications go on a waitlist.
    Good to know: Paper forms come in 8 languages, including Spanish, Somali, and Vietnamese.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for your answer

    Spots are picked by lottery

    • Answer by May 1
    • Watch for their letter
    Important: If you get a spot, you have 2 weeks to finish the enrollment papers.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Start preschool in September

    Good to know: Most Seattle families pay nothing! A second child gets a 10% discount.
