  1. Step 1 of 5: See if this is for you

    • Child is 3 or 4 by September 1
    • Live in a participating town
    • Free for your family
    Don't miss: Children turning 3 after September 1 are not eligible.
    Good to know: Check the community list to see if your town participates.
  2. Step 2 of 5: Get papers ready

    • Proof of address: bill or lease
    • Child's birth certificate
  3. Step 3 of 5: Enter the lottery

    Applications usually open late spring or early summer

    Good to know: You can pick multiple preferred sites, ranked in your order of preference.
  4. Step 4 of 5: Wait for results

    • Results a few weeks after closing
    • Notice by email and mail
  5. Step 5 of 5: Confirm your spot

    • Follow the instructions sent
    • Get ready for preschool
