  1. Step 1 of 6: Find the right program

    • Head Start: ages 3 to 5
    • Pre-K: age 4 by September 1
    • Early help: ages 0 to 5
    Good to know: Both programs are free. Pre-K has no income requirement.
    Important: Head Start is for lower-income families. Tribal members and kids with disabilities come first.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get the application

  3. Step 3 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Birth certificate and SSN card
    • Proof of your money
    • Shot and health records
    • IEP or IFSP if your child has one
  4. Step 4 of 6: Turn it all in

    • Drop it off in person
    • Mail to PO Box 1029
    • Fax to (505) 852-4350
    Important: Pre-K spots are first come, first served and usually fill up early. Apply soon.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for your answer

    Staff check your papers and find a spot

    • Staff review your application
    • Go to orientation
    Good to know: Head Start has open enrollment all year. If it is full, your child goes on a waitlist.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Your child starts school

    • School days Monday to Friday
    • Free bus service
    • Healthy meals and checkups
    Good to know: Kids get health screenings, Tewa culture, field trips, and free books. Welcome to the program!
