  1. Step 1 of 6: See if your family fits

    • You work, train, or go to school
    • Income rules by family size
    • You live outside the 5 boroughs
    Good to know: Getting SNAP or TANF does not automatically disqualify you.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • ID or birth certificate
    • Recent pay stubs
    • Work or school letter
    • Each child's birth certificate
  3. Step 3 of 6: Apply your way

    Important: Incomplete applications can make processing take longer.
    Good to know: Local community organizations can help you apply.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Wait for your answer

    • Review takes 30 to 45 days
    • Watch for your letter
    Good to know: If denied, you get the reasons in writing and you can appeal.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Pick a provider

    • Choose licensed or registered care
    • Share the provider's info
    Important: Providers must be licensed or registered with New York State.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Help with the bill starts

    • Money goes to your provider
    • Starts 7 to 10 days after approval
    Important: CCAP covers a portion of child care costs, not always all of it.
