  1. Step 1 of 5: See if your child fits

    • Age 3 by Sept 1 for Early PreK
    • Age 4 by Sept 1 for PreK
    • Any income, any immigration status
    Good to know: Pre-K is completely free during program hours. Extended care may cost extra.
  2. Step 2 of 5: Find a Pre-K near you

  3. Step 3 of 5: Get your papers ready

    • Child's birth certificate
    • Shot records
    • Proof of where you live
    Good to know: Income papers are only used for priority status, if at all.
  4. Step 4 of 5: Apply with the provider

    Each program has its own steps

    • Contact the program directly
    • Turn in the application
    • Go to screening or orientation
  5. Step 5 of 5: Wait for your spot

    • Accepted or waitlisted
    • Enroll when a spot opens
    Good to know: Public programs usually tell you several months before school starts. Mid-year spots can open too.
