  1. Step 1 of 6: See if you qualify

    Important: In two-parent homes, BOTH parents must be working, in school, training, job searching, or medically unable at the same time.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Birth certificate and shot records
    • Social Security cards and ID
    • Pay stubs or tax papers
    • Work or school schedule
  3. Step 3 of 6: Apply online

  4. Step 4 of 6: Do your phone interview

    • DHHS will call you
    • Answer their questions
    Don't miss: The phone interview is required. Your application is not done without it.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Pick your child care

    • Licensed center or home
    • Approved relative or neighbor
    Important: If your provider is not approved yet, a referral can take up to 6 weeks, and payments do not go back in time.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Start care

    • State pays your provider
    • You pay a small monthly fee
    Good to know: Some families pay nothing at all if they qualify for full coverage. Your family is on its way!
