  1. Step 1 of 6: See if this fits you

    • You live in Mercer County
    • Earn too much for NJ CCAP
    • Citizen or qualified non-citizen
    Good to know: This is a grant, not a loan. You never pay it back, and it does not count in public charge decisions.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Photo ID or Social Security card
    • Lease or utility bill
    • Pay stubs (30-60 days)
    • Child's birth certificate
  3. Step 3 of 6: Get the application

  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply and wait

    • Send application and papers
    • Agency checks if you qualify
    Important: There is usually a waiting list. Eligible families move into active status as spots open.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Sign your agreements

    After you are approved

    • Sign the PAPA agreement
    • Sign the e-Child Care agreement
  6. Step 6 of 6: Start using your help

    • Pick a licensed NJ provider
    • Start within 60 days
    Don't miss: Once approved, you have 60 days to begin using your child care benefits.
    Good to know: Denied? You can reapply if your situation changes.
