    Good to know: It's free. Every kindergartner and 5th grader gets $100 in a scholarship account.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Sign up online

    • Create your K2C account
    • See your child's scholarship
  3. Step 3 of 6: Pick a savings account

    Two choices for your family

    • my529 college savings account
    • Self-Help credit union account
    Important: my529 asks for an SSN or ITIN. The credit union account needs a visit to a bank branch.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • SSN or ITIN (for my529)
    • Proof of ID and where you live
    • Bank details for adding money
  5. Step 5 of 6: Get your bonus money

    • $75 bonus for opening account
    • Arrives within a few weeks
    Good to know: Eligible public school students may also get $500 from California's CalKIDS program.
