  1. Step 1 of 6: See if your child qualifies

    • 4 years old by September 1
    • Live in Michigan
    • Income or other qualifying factors
    Good to know: GSRP is free for eligible families.
    Important: If your income is at or below 100% of the poverty level, you are referred to Head Start first.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Find a program near you

  3. Step 3 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Child's birth certificate
    • Proof you live in Michigan
    • Proof of money for all adults
    Good to know: A lease, utility bill, or government ID works as proof of where you live.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply through your program

    Your local ISD or provider has the form

    • Ask for the application
    • Turn it in with your papers
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for your answer

    • Many hear back in a few weeks
    • You may be put on a waitlist
    Good to know: Mid-year enrollment is possible if the program has space.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Your child starts preschool

    • Part-day, school-day, or full-day
    • Play-based learning
    Good to know: Your child will build early reading, math, and friendship skills - all for free.
