  1. Step 1 of 6: See if your child fits

    Two simple rules

    • Turns 4 by September 1
    • Lives in Georgia
    Good to know: The program is completely free.
    Good to know: Some providers can take kids who turn 4 by December 1, if there is space.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Child's birth certificate
    • Proof of your address
    Good to know: For age: a birth certificate, passport, or hospital birth record works. For address: a lease, utility bill, or a shelter or employer letter works.
  3. Step 3 of 6: Find a Pre-K near you

    You apply with the school itself

    Good to know: You can apply to more than one provider.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply with the school

    • Fill out the application
    • January to mid-March
    Important: Most school systems take applications between January and mid-March. Exact dates vary by provider.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for the answer

    • The school will notify you
    Good to know: If you don't get a spot at first, you can join a waitlist.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Get ready to start

    • Health checks: hearing, vision, dental
    • Shot records
    • Start at the school year
