  1. Step 1 of 6: See if this fits you

You need one income rule and one need rule

    • Meet income guidelines, or get Medi-Cal, CalFresh, WIC
    • You work, study, or look for work
    • Kids from birth to age 13
Good to know: Your child's immigration status does not affect eligibility.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Find your local agency

They put you on the waiting list

  3. Step 3 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Pay stubs or benefit letters for everyone
    • Work, school, or training papers
    • Kids' birth certificates or custody papers
    • Lease or ID with your address
Important: Missing papers cause delays or denials.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply and join the list

    • Fill out the application
    • Turn in all your papers
Important: Spots are limited. Children needing protective services come first, then the lowest-income families.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for a spot

    • Wait times vary, sometimes months
    • The agency calls when a spot opens
Don't miss: Answer their calls and update your contact info. If they can't reach you, you could lose your spot.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Pick your provider and start

    • Choose a home provider from the network
    • The state pays the provider directly
    • Learning, meals, and growth check-ins
Good to know: Families below 75% of the state's middle income pay no fee. Welcome to the network!
