  1. Step 1 of 6: See if this is for you

    • Kids from birth to age 13
    • Up to 19 if disabled
    • Working, training, or in school
Good to know: The state pays your provider directly — you don't receive cash.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Get papers ready

    • Kids' birth certificates
    • Social Security cards
    • Photo ID and proof of address
    • Pay stubs for a full month
Important: Also bring shot records, your work or school schedule, and child support papers if you have them.
  3. Step 3 of 6: Pick a provider

Must be licensed and work with DHS

Don't miss: Your provider must be licensed and contracted with DHS, or the state cannot pay them.
  4. Step 4 of 6: Apply

  5. Step 5 of 6: Do your interview

A DHS worker will talk with you

    • Complete the interview
    • Turn in all your papers
Good to know: Workers must approve your case within 2 working days after your interview and papers are done.
  6. Step 6 of 6: Get your answer

    • Notice of Action letter arrives
    • Get your EBT card
    • Start child care, pay your share
Good to know: You made it! Your co-payment depends on your income and family size.
