  1. Step 1 of 6: See if you qualify

    • Income under the limit
    Important: Income limits change every year by April 1st.
  2. Step 2 of 6: Pick your provider

    Licensed or approved care

    • Licensed center
    • Approved home care
    Important: All providers must pass background checks and Central Registry checks.
  3. Step 3 of 6: Get your papers ready

    • Pay stubs or income proof
    • Social Security cards
    • Kids' birth certificates
    • Work or school proof
  4. Step 4 of 6: Send your application

    In person or by email

    Good to know: Visit your local DFS office if you want help with the application.
  5. Step 5 of 6: Wait for your answer

    • DFS reviews your case
    • Watch for your notice
  6. Step 6 of 6: Start your child care

    • DFS pays your provider
    • You pay a co-payment
