Step 1 of 5: See if this fits you
- An adult working or in school
- Kids 6 weeks to 13 years
- Any income. There is no limit
Good to know: Every adult in the household needs a qualifying activity, except grandparents.
Don't miss: Two things mean an automatic no: no qualifying activity, or missing documents.
Step 2 of 5: Get your papers ready
- Photo ID for every adult
- Each child's birth certificate
- Proof you live in New Mexico
- Pay stubs for the last 30 days, or your school schedule
Good to know: Birth certificates are needed for every child under 18 who lives with you, even the ones not going into care.
Good to know: Proof of address can be a photo ID, utility bill, rent receipt or mortgage payment. Anything with your name and address.
Good to know: If you have already chosen a child care centre, include its details too.
Step 3 of 5: Apply your way
Step 4 of 5: Answer anything they ask for
- Watch for messages from ECECD
- They will try to reach you three times
- Finish within 30 days
Don't miss: If they cannot reach you after three tries, or your application is still incomplete after 30 days, you get a denial email.

Good to know: Once approved, ECECD sets up your provider for monthly billing.
